Caroline Anderson
After a few years within the educational system teaching art, I decided to study at The Caldecott, passed their certificate which culminated in my first M.A. research project, 'Therapeutic Child Care in Education'. The research MA included the psychology of touch in stress related eczema where disrupted attachment was suspected. Massage qualifications held.
With an increasing interest in psychology and therapy in general, I again retrained as a creative arts and play therapist where one can use the mediums as ‘transitional objects’, without the need for the young person to talk before they feel secure ‘enough’. Before gaining my second MA. The Transpersonal Integrated Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy I gained diplomas with Association of Integrated Sand Therapy and Play Therapy U K.
In practice a combination of therapeutic disciplines are used to meet the needs of the individual client. The client base includes those with a medical diagnosis such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as young people who have general anxiety, including separation within family.
Children who are not able to live within their birth family present with many forms of PTSD and associated Attachment Disorders, therefore their emotional settlement with a foster / adoption family can be as traumatic as the initial separation from the birth family. The verbal recounting of the trauma can be as traumatic as the event itself and so I specialise in non - verbal communication through the ‘transitional object’ of play and creative arts. The young person is supported at their own pace as their stories unfold until they are able to verbalise their thoughts and feelings on the conscious level.
